ACT I
The Stahlbaums are throwing their annual Christmas Eve party. Drosselmeyer, the Stahlbaum's mysterious guest, arrives with curious presents in tow. Drosselmeyer gives Clara a special Nutcracker doll, which Fritz breaks. Drosselmeyer bandages the Nutcracker and Clara lovingly lays him under the tree to sleep. During the night, Clara wakes up to check on her Nutcracker. As the clock strikes midnight, the Christmas tree begins to grow and mice fill the room led by the Mouse Queen. Clara's beloved Nutcracker comes to life complete with an army, and a battle ensues. Just as the Nutcracker is about to be defeated, Clara throws her shoe at the Mouse Queen. The Mouse Queen is distracted and the Nutcracker defeats her. The Nutcracker is transformed back into a doll, and Clara travels through A Pine Forest, and is led by a snowstorm to the magical Kingdom of the Sweets.
ACT II
Clara arrives in the Kingdom of the Sweets, ruled by the beautiful Dew Drop Fairy. Clara tells the story of how The Nutcracker saved her life. In honor of her bravery, the royal subjects from around the world perform dances: chocolate from Spain, coffee from Arabia, tea from China, candy canes from Russia & marzipan from Denmark. Mother Ginger and her children, the Polichinelles, perform a dance followed by the Waltz of the Flowers. Clara follows with the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, and dazzles the royal court with her artistry and charm. After the performance, Clara begins to wake up and finds herself at home with her precious Nutcracker doll in her arms. Only one question remains...was it all a dream?
